The Open Society and Its Enemies is an influential two-volume work by Karl Popper written during World War II. Failing to find a publisher in the United States, it was first printed in London by Routledge in 1945. The work excoriates theories of teleological historicism in which history unfolds inexorably according to universal laws, and indicts as totalitarian Plato, Hegel and Marx for relying on historicism to underpin their political philosophies.

Publication

A veritable who's who of philosophy and the social sciences were involved in its path to publication, as Popper was writing in academic obscurity two oceans away in New Zealand for the duration of the World War II. Among them were Ernst Gombrich (entrusted with the main task of finding a publisher), Friedrich Hayek (who wanted to get Popper to the London School of Economics and thus was enthused by Popper's turn to social philosophy), Lionel Robbins, Harold Laski (both of whom reviewed the manuscript), and J.N. Findlay. It was Findlay who suggested the title to the book, after three previous ones had been discarded ('A Social Philosophy for Everyman' was the original title of the manuscript. 'Three False Prophets: Plato-Hegel-Marx' and 'A Critique of Political Philosophy' were also considered and rejected).

Remember When a "Conspiracy Theorist" was Commander-in-Chief of America?
Q. President Bush is obviously not one. But President John F. Kennedy clearly was! President Bush staged a grandiose war to end all NO-FLY-ZONES! He did this right under the noses of the roaming internet gestapo giving mental evaluations to humans everywhere as they applaud wars for "FREEDOM" (to believe there is a global conspiracy?) President John F. Kennedy wouldn't think of staging any war to end all NO-FLY-ZONES. Why not? because he was a conspiracy theorist! He would be concerned about black helicopters, but not no-FLY-ZONES. Which president was better? Would you hate the days when a "conspiracy theorist" was in control? Remembered middle eastern muslim terrorists thinking to attack his administration which refused secrecy… [cont.]

A. BHO - Nazism they can believe in: Have you considered medication? Jerry: If someone wants to start a war to end all NO-FLY-ZONES, why would someone like him think everybody else needs medication? Hey BO without the H: Are you guys for real? You truly Americans or just debaters? The Communists and Nazis were always prescribing! Mike: John Kennedy was not a conspiracy theorist by any stretch of the imagination. Jerry: now what does the fang quotation say??? Would you know I was a conspiracy theorist if I said there was a "monolithic conspiracy" that relies on "covert means" to accomplish its ends? Let me help BHO to direct his talents handed down from his ancestors and ask you if you considered medication. David S.: They say… [cont.]

Why do Europeans appease TERRORISM? (ex. NK, IRAN)?
Q. I always knew it was, but it took a GERMAN (if you can imagine that..lol) to illustrate this FACT...This is the TRUEST thing you will ever read about the European's method of foreign/world policy...All I can say is...Thank God for America...and the United Kingdom...(whom is far closer to America than she is Europe)... (Commentary by Mathias Dapfner CEO, Axel Springer, AG) A few days ago Henry Broder wrote in Weltam Sonntag, "Europe - your family name is appeasement." It's a phrase you can't get out of your head because it's so terribly true. Appeasement cost millions of Jews and non-Jews their lives as England and France, allies at the time, negotiated and hesitated too long before they noticed that Hitler had to be fought, not bound… [cont.]

What could be the cause behind Tsunami?
Q. What could be the cause behind Tsunami? (A laconic elucidation from Bible) Millions of people lost courage on December 26th, 2004. The entire mankind was horrified on the deep effect of Tsunami, which traumatized the whole world. It has become a burning issue discussed by the nations of the world. The death toll reached millions due to the effect. The same Tsunami hit the mankind 40 years ago and wiped out 35 thousand people. Though man is on his scientific and hi-tech journey, all his evaluations were unable to save the affected. Nations, government personnel and scientists are to be pitied for not guesstimating the sudden disaster. Though they have their scientific elucidation there is still more to be evaluated for the question,… [cont.]
